In the dark of the night she planned her escape. She had been under the yoke for a long time. She wanted to be free so badly she could almost taste it! At dawn, she broke her shackles. Escape was not going to be easy. She waited for that precise moment when she didn’t hear anything stirring. Holding her breath, she crawled over the thorns and through the minefield for what seemed like an eternity. The door to her deliverance was in sight. Her heart leaped, but she couldn’t rejoice just yet. Just a little further. Her knees hurt and a cough threatened to well up. She stifled it somehow. She was so close, she couldn’t give up, not now. But fate had other plans.


She heard a shuffling noise. She stiffened. More shuffling. Her heart sank. Were her attempts going to be futile? She looked up and she had this sinking feeling that she was caught.

“Mama”, the little voice said. “Where are you going”? Her toddler was awake. Any thoughts of trying to get a few peaceful moments with a hot cup of coffee went down the drain. “Good morning sweetheart” she said, and scooped up the little one.
