Anything But Books Tag

I’ve been tagged! It’s something that doesn’t happen too often, so this is exciting. The tagger in question here is one of my favorite book bloggers – Shantala from Shanaya Tales.

I’ve come across some great reads thanks to her. It’s amazing how Shantala’s book reviews are consistently balanced and well-thought out. I’ve been following her for a few years now and I’m proud to call her a friend. If you love books, you’ve got to follow this girl.

Okay, back to the tag – thanks to Shantala, I get to talk about myself! Yay! (not!) Talking about myself doesn’t come easily to me, but for the sake of my five followers, I will try. So, here goes-

Name a cartoon you love

Calvin & Hobbes! I think that kid and his tiger have it all figured out. Futurama was my favorite animated series on TV. It starts with a pizza delivery guy, Philip Fry who gets accidentally cryogenically frozen for a 1000 years and wakes up in the 31st century. The series was masterful sci-fi with a heart.

The Awkward Yeti is a webcomic I absolutely love. It stars a socially awkward blue yeti called Lars and his heart and brain and shows the constant tug of war between them. It’s so darn clever!

What is your favorite song right now?

Let’s see. Does ‘Wheels on the Bus’ count? I hardly listen to my songs these days, thanks to my 4 year old. But if I had to pick, it would be these –

Renegades by X Ambassadors

Bulleya – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Blues Run the Game – Simon & Garfunkel (The original’s Jackson Frank, but I like the S&G version more)

I listen to instrumental music especially when I’m writing. Bach Cello Suite No. 1 in G  always helps me focus.

What could you do for hours (that isn’t reading)?

Sleep! I want to apologize to my mom for all the naps I didn’t take growing up. Seriously, why don’t kids want to nap?

Another thing I can do for hours is watch TV, of course. This season of Fargo is so dark and intriguing. I cannot stop watching it. Other series I’m loving these days are The Handmaid’s Tale, Elementary and This is Us.

What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

I’m not sure how surprising this is going to be, but I love to eat. I plan my entire day around food (I really do.)  I love cooking as much as I like to eat!

What is your favorite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about (this can do with books, I guess)?

I’m fascinated by trapeze artists. So I’d love to learn aerial yoga someday.

What is something unusual you know how to do?

I can wiggle my ears 🙂

Name something you’ve made in the last year (and show us, if you can).

What have I made? I’ve made up a lot of stories. I’m the worst DIYer you’ll ever find. So haven’t really “made” anything other than paper boats and paper rockets for my little girl.

What is your most recent personal project?

I’ve started on my book writing journey. It’s a YA Fantasy novel and I’m having a lot of fun writing it.

Tell us something you think about often (maybe while staring out of windows).

While staring out of the windows, I sometimes think about my book, plots for my flash fiction pieces, sometimes I win imaginary arguments. At other times, I just like to enjoy the moment and watch life go by.

Give us something that’s your favorite, but make it something oddly specific, not like your favorite food, but like your favorite food when you’ve been studying for hours and forgot to eat. Or, you know, something like that.

I’m a homebody, so my favorite thing is when someone cancels on me. It means I get to watch TV and eat ice cream in my pajamas. IMO, there is nothing better than that.

That’s about it, folks! Thanks everyone for reading and thanks again, Shantala for thinking about me and tagging me on this fun post.

I won’t be tagging anyone on here, but if you want to do this, feel free to tag yourself. I’d love to know more about you.

Happy Friday!
